The Pathfinder aviators were carried shoulder-high to the residence of the Civil Governor of Santander. The news of the landing spread rapidly, and the roads we*e soon crowded \ivith people anxious to get a glimpse of the airmen, who, in the meantime, through an interpreter, were asking' the Governor if lie could provide enough petrol to carry them to Rome. I It was pointed out there were neither fulel nor lights available at the emergency aerodrome. They then decided to spend the night at Santander, and to depart, in the morning. The airmen expressed great - disappointment that they 7 had been unable to reach Borne on a non-stop flight: They stated that they had had a magnifieient flight across the Atlantic.
