U.S. TARIFF
PROTESTS AGAINST BILL. (United Preee Association—By Electrn Telegraph—Copyright). (Received this day at 9.25 a.m.) WASHINGTON, July 10. The Senate Finance Committee disclosed twenty-five foreign Governments, including Australia, had protested against the increased duties proposed in the House Tariff Bill. Some of these notes were couched in strong language particularly the Australian which leaves the suggestion of “a general tariff war with no quarter to be given or accepted.” Spain threatens a denunciation of the existing modus vivendi under which trade with 'United States is now conducted. The most embittered communications cbme from, smaller nations such as Switzerland, Denmark, Holland and Belgium. The Committee received no communication from several large countries in which it has been reported resentment is especially high. These included Canada and Argentina'.'
