The death of Mr Hugh Boyle, senr. formerly a well-known resident of Greymouth, at the age of 74 years, took place yesterday at his.residence, Huntly, Waikato. A native of ‘Donegal, 'lreland, the late Mr Boyle came in the early days to ‘the West Coast, where lie ‘was the pioneer railway engine 'driver., "having driven the first locomotives on this section, and "having been a 'very expert "Operative on ! the footplate. He was probably the oldest ‘railway engine driver in the Dominion.. He transferred from the Coast about twenty years ago to Hunfly, returning, to Grevmouth frr a term after his retirement, but he fifteen years ago took' up his residence at Huntly, where he had since remained. He was highly esteemed by a very wide circle of friend's whose sympathy will be extended to the deceased's relations. He is survived by his wife, and by a family of three sons and four daughters. The daughters are Mr Jas. Collogan, Greymouth ; Mrs W. Mathers, Wanganui Mrs T. McCarthy, Mercer, and Mrs F Harris, Huntly 5 while the sons Hugh (Huntly), Joseph and Charles (Auckland). * i
