WEST COAST FARMERS’ EXCURSION
At the annual meeting of the West Coast Farmers’ Union at Grevmouth on Tuesday, 18th instant, Al.r C. D. McKenzie, business agent for the New Zealand Railways, outlined an itinerary for another Farmers’ Excursion to the North Island to commence on the 20th -Julv, leaving Greymoutli for Lyttelton, arriving next day. On 22nd leave for Wanganui, leaving on 24th ior Hamilton. On 25th leave Hamilton for Rotorua, leaving on 27th for Auckland. After two days’ stay at Auckland, leave on 31st .for Palmerston. Thence leaving on Ist August for AVellington, which will be left on 2nd for Lyttelton, arriving back at Greymoutli on 3id August. The total mileage to be travelled is 1,130 miles and the. total transport cost and side trips from Hokitika will bo £lO 3« 4d. Accommodation ior 14 days will bo additional. Intending passengers are advised to prompt!) hand their names to the nearest branch secretary of the Farmers’ Union, and not later than Ist July.
Already 280 farmers from Canterbury and West Coast' have returned from their trip to the. North Island. At nrosont time 300 Otago Farmers are touring the North Island and on July sth another 300 tanners from Southland will journey northwards. From the reports of the i|armors from the ('past, who visited the North Island recently, they speak in glowing terms of t'ho trip and proclaim it to he a real holiday as well as an education.
