BANQUET AT BLUFF
HON. MR DK LA BERRELBE HONOURED. IVERCAR’GILL, June 18. The lion. Air do la Berrelle (Alini.vcr for internal Affairs) was entertained at a banquet by his Blull' con-s-viments. on Monday evening, 'flu; Mayor presided over an attendance o. 500. The Hon. Mr Cobbo (Minister for .Marine) represented the Government and there were also present the Deputy Mayor of Invercargill, the the Mayor of Gore, Judge Gilfcddei, of the Native Land Court, Air D. Alt - Oouga.ll, ALL’., and Air Tuiti Makitinara, AI.LV Air Perellc was congratulated by Southland local body representatives on his promotion to the Alinistry. Tributes were paid to his work, not only for the province, but for the Dominion, and the portfolio was declared to I be justly deserved. In a long speech Air Cobbc referred to the land settlement policy of the Government, which, lie said, was being handled in a linn, decisive manner. Air Perellc said that the Government was carrying out its election pledges, particularly with regard lo providing money for workers and settlers. Loans authorised from the .state Advances Department from December Kith, to Alay 31st. numbered Woo to settlers, valued at £1,702770; to workers 180(3 amounting to £l,•OlO.ooo; a total of 3331 loans, of the value of £3 373,325. Between the same dates 950 loans of the value of £1,198,930 were paid over to settlers, while t'. v workers a total oI 2064 loans were paid, the value lining £2,1/8,450. Now loan moneys added to the State Advances capital between these tWo dates totalled £3,530,900, and the balance of loan moneys held available for investment as at Alay 31st. was £2.•180.385. Air Perellc thanked his constituents for the honour done him.
