SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT. I am indeed pleased to state that my report will be very short. Dining the last quarter we have had only two fire calls, and the loss only nominal. No. 1, Hull’s stables, North Revell Street, estimated damage being about £SO. No. 2, old building on Gibson’s Quay known as Davies Brewery, damage about £5, no insurance, looked a clear case of inoendiaiism. An enquiry was held—no conviction. The membership of the Brigade still stands at full strength and the gear is in fair order. We require to place au order for 300 feet of 2jjinch hose, and I would like to discuss with your Board at this meeting the possibility of a better fire.alarm system. Thanking your Board for kind consideration given in the past.—-Receiv-ed. It was resolved to procure the hose asked for.
It was resolved that the Secretary keep a record of fires, the hour, and who reported the outbreaks. In connection with a proposed alarm system, the Superintendent addressed the meeting suggesting the installation of a system on the lines of that in vogue in Blenheim (particulars of which were published some time ago). It was resolved that a report be obtained for consideration at next meeting, showing the distances, and location of the necessary installation, with an estimate of the cost from the District Engineer. The Superintendent stated that the proposed installation would not do away with the present telephone connections to the officers and turncocks residences. The Treasurer reported receipts £209 11s 6d, payments £lO3 2s Bd, credit balance £IOO 8s 10d.- Recoiled.
The Secretary reported there were no discrepancies in the nightwatcliniiin’s toll-tali, dock.—Received. Accounts amounting to £IOO 15s 7d were passed for payment. The Board rose at 8.50 p.m.
