Alphonso Brown, 118 lbs, a negio, earned the State Athletic Commission’s title to “the world’s defending bantam weight champion” bv decisively defeating Piclal Gregoria, ll< lbs, in a fifteen round bout, in which he led all the way. repeatedly flooring his opponent, and out-boxing him throughout. REFEREE STOPS FIGHT. SYDNEY, June 20. At Sydney Stadium to-night Ern Connors (8.11) beat ’tommy Griffiths (8.11), the referee stopping the contest in the eighth round. Conners led throughout, punishing Griffiths severely and dropped him several times with heavy lefts and rights to the jaw. Griffiths was unable to land convincing punches and was beaten at infighting. Eventually Griffiths was in such a bad way that the referee stopped the fight and declared Connors the winner.
