ESTABLISHMENT BURGLED,. By Telegraph—Ri ess Assn., Copyright. HAWERA, June 7. Following the burglary at Now Plymouth of the establishment of C. C. Ward Ltd., a little over a week ago, when £3OO in money was stolon, the Hawera branch of the firm received attention last week-end. In this case the thief or thieves were not so successful, only £3 3s lid bein - secured. The safe, which contained a large sum of money, received attention, .but it resisted the efforts made to open. Tn the office a till‘•of small change was fpund,. including £1 worth of pennies. At the time of the burglary of the firm’s New Plymouth establishment, it was reported from Now■ Plymouth that the Hawera branch was also being robbed of goods and £.90 in cash. This was incorrect, no 'burglary having taken [dace hereto.
DOG TRIALS. HAWERA, .Tune 7. The dog trials ave being continued to-day in wet weather. Two matters affecting West Coast were brought before Mi Veiteh (Alin*ister of Mines) by Mr Holland and A. McLagan representing the United mine workers to-day. Air Holland raised a question concerning the position of Stockton, which is to he further considered by the Minister, and he also urged that something should be done to widen the dangerous Westport main mine road.. The Minister promised t6' have, enquiries made as to the position in this matter.
WELLINGTON CITY VALUES. WEHLL'NGTON, June 7. When the Assessment Court met today to deal with objections to.the valuation of city properties, the valuer for the district, Air Frazer Mackenzie, stated 25,000 notices had been sent out and in only 85 cases had the own-: ors asked that their objections should; be brought before the Court. The first objection was to the valuation of St. Paul’s Schoolroom site, Sydney Street. The capital value is £5500 and the city value £4OOO, improvements £15,000. Tliis is a Government grant and not vendable, and all agreed to the nominal value of £SOOO being placed upon it.
INQUEST VERDICT. WAIROA, June 7. At an inquest this morning into the death of Clarence Spence, aged 23, a married man, a verdict that deceased died from a fractured spine, caused by a collision at a football practice at Ruakituri last Anzac Day, and that no blame was attachable to any player. YOUNG GIRL’S DEATH. NAPIER, June 7. A young girl, Eileen Hepburn, said to belong to Gisborne,- died at the Napier Hospital to-day under conditions compelling holding an inquest. COMMITTED FOR RE-TRIAL, TI MAR IT. June 7. At' the Temuka Magistrate’s Court, Martin Joseph Melville, was committed for re-trial charged with supplying an instrument for illegal purposes on a woman, who died last Saturday. Bail was granted, self in £2OO and two sureties of £IOO each, INQUEST VERDICT. WELLINGTON. June 7. At the inquest on Arthur James Harry, a verdict was returned that de-. ceased died in Wellington Hospital from laceration of the brain through being struck at Paremata bv the engine of a goods' train on Ist June, no blame being attachable to the driver.
