PETROL FIRE

SYDNEY DISASTER AVERTED

(Australian Press Association)

SYDNEY, May 31

An explosion and a lire at ii petrol storage tank on the harbour front menaced a Colonial Sugar Refining Company’s large works nearby. One workman was seriously injured. The tan!; contained only fifteen inches of petrol, and the firemen were able to prevent the flames from reaching two adjoining filled tanks, forty feet in diameter, which would have caused a big loss of life had they exploded.
