BOROUGH RATES
OF FARAL LANDS

There ha;; been a flood deal of controversy over the rating ol farm lands in boroughs, and the matter has been the subject of an inquiry by commissions. The Government has- decided to give effect to the findings of tin* commissions and promote legislation next session which will deal with lands at present included in the boroughs. Otaki, Feidmg, Mosgiel an ,! Mataurn boroughs are particularly alfected.
The decision come to by the Government will ease the Illinois of small farmers in boroughs, who have for years past been struggling under a burden of excessive rates. A statement of the position wa* - given by the Minister of Internal Affairs to a. “Daily Times” reporter. The method of classification recommended hv the commission in three classes are as follows Class A Huifiling land. viz., land suitable for building purposes and having a fronts age to a mad or street; class B: Potential building and. viz., land Inning a potential building value, o: other than land included in class A class C; Farm lands, viz., land use* for farm purposes, and not suitable for building purposes.
