LOCAL BODY OBJECTION TO PAY

INVERCARGILL, May 30. The annual nifeeting of the Southland League to-dtty. was attended by representatives from all parts of the province. Mr W. ..Alexander was reelected president. Later representatives of the local .bodies met the Southland Members of Parliament in Conference. Complaint ' was voiced in connection with the new regulations dealing with railway traffic signs. It was stated that hifherto the Railway Department had uhdertaken the erection and maintenance of these signs, hut now tho onus was thrown on/tlie local bodies. It was considered hardship on all the local bodies to he forced to pay the cost of all the signs.
Hon. P. De La Perrelle, Minister of Internal Affairs, said that he had listened attentively to the complaints, and ho would certainly bring a protest under the notice of the Minister of Railways.
Mr Adam Hamilton, M.P., said that the Railway Department had always in the past paid for the erection of signs, and lie could not understand why any change of policy had occurred.
