MELBOURNE, May 30.

The Master Timber Merchants’ Asso-* eiation made an appeal for volunteer; skilled hands for various mills. lliiS' has had an immediate practical response to-day, scores of men desiring to register for work in the strikers’ places. However, only the names of skilled men were registered, many of whom were sent direct to the yards. The police prevented their molestation.

Th Victorian State Government lias guaranteed effective police protection.
