A deputation froiii the New Zealand Poultry Association’s Conference today waited oil the Minister of Agriculture (Hoit. G. W. Forbes). The President (Mr G. S. Bates) said the Association asked for grading laws, cheaper feed prices, and increased duty pH imported eggs, an examination of the prospects of forming an egg pulp association ' the registration of jxniltry keepers, and a census of poultry.

It was urged too that the Chief Poultry Inspector (Mr F. C. Brown) should be sent as a delegate to the World’s Poultry Conference in 1930, together with representative numbers of New Zealand birds. The Minister was asked also to increase the number of poultry instructor*. In the course of his reply, the Minister said that a good deal had been heard about the cost of production in every branch of industry, and lm could quite understand that in the poultry industry it was an important factor. When the wheat question was considered dtlriiig the coming session by a Parliamentary Committee, the poultrymen would have an opportunity of representing their side of the case. He understood that the Wheat Board was prepared to treat with th" poultrymen in regard to supplies, and no doubt as a result of organisation, they could arrange for the purchasin'! of the best quality wheat at a cheaper price. He would like to assist the poultry industry, sihee it provided a good deal of eiiit> ,o yhicnt and was one that all wanted to see moving along satisfactorily. The point raised would he taken into, serious account and the deputation could Ire assured that they would receive sympathetic consideration.

In regard to one of the matters referred to, the Minister mentioned that at the present iinle an officer of the, Agricultural Department was engaged in examining the economic aspects of the industry’.

Mr Forbes said he would convey to the Minister of Industries and Commerce the representations regarding an increase in the duties on imported .eggs.
