Tom Heeney, the "New Zealand boxer, won his fight against Rioux in the, eighth round. Rioux was disqualified for hitting low.
A DULL CONTEST.
MONTREAL, May 29,
In the light the weights were: itioux, 197 i pounds; Heeney 208 pounds. The Canadian forced tho fighting in the first round, and the New Zealander forced it in the second, shaking his opponent with a stiff jolt to the solar ploxusi.
Heeney continued to lead through the next three.rounds, although Rioux succeeded in keeping Heeney at long range. It was a deadly dull contest, the Canadian struggling to get out of Heeney’s reach. Rioux opened Heeney’s eye in the sixth round, but he was floored in return.
The referee had warned the Canadian'five times thus far for hitting low. The fight in the seventh round became a silly spectacle, the crowd jeering Rioux. hnd Heeney demanding that the Canadian should come on.
They were mauling each other in the eighth round, when Rioux fouled Heeney. The referee waved the Canadian into his corner, and declared Heeney the winner.
