FARMERS’ TOUR

A party comprising 290 Canterbury 'farmers and including a mwnber of Indies, arrived at Brighton this afternoon on a tour of .Marlborough and Nelson, under the auspices of the hailway Department. Leaving Christchurch Ibis morning, they travelled by train as far as the railhead at Parnassus, completing the journey in glorious'weather in a fleet, of service cars. The visitors were tendered a civic reception to-night, when they were cordially welcomed to the town and the province. Speeches were delivered by t.. c Mayor, Mr McKenzie, by Air K. F. Mealy. ALP., and the Presidents of the farmers’ organisations, the welcoming this peaceful invasion from the south as a wonderful opportunity of advertising the potentialities of the rich district. The excursionists will spend three full days in Marlborough before leavin„ for' Nelson. To-morrow will he devoted to a giant launch picnic in Queen Charlotte Sound, Alarlboroiifgh s beautiful fiordliuid.
