John Harvey Blong, aged 21, driver of the lorry was charged at the Police Court with being intoxicated while driving. He was fined £lO or one month’s imprisonment. His license was cancelled for twelve months. The defence was that the mishap was caused by a tyre blowing out. It was stated by Sub-Inspector McCarthy that Blong and his companions had a consderable quantity of beer at the danwi, and were all more or less drunk. Blong, nevertheless, asserted he was sober and was supported in his statement by two companions. Liquor at these country dances should be stopped, remarked Mr Hunt S.M.
