HEAVY RAIN
DAAIAGE SEVERAL THOUSANDS
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)
NELSON, April 30
Although no large bridges in the Waimea County have been washed away by last night’s flood, much damage of all descriptions is so widespread that it is anticipated that it will cost several thousand pounds to put the roads in good repair again.
In the city the Alatai River rose about ten ifeet, while Brook stream, in its narrow confine, ran about fifteen feet above its normal height. Several business premises in the low-lying area were flooded.
All of the motor services, with the exception of that to the AVest Const, resumed at midday, and the train service resumed this afternoon.
It is hoped that the West Coast service will ho resumed to-morrow.
