ASSISTANCE FOR YACHT

WELLINGTON, April 33. The Secretary Genera I of the Post Office received the (following report from the Sydney radio at 10.10 p.m. New Zealand time: “ The yacht Alinara is reported disabled ten miles north of Seal Rocks. She has a broken rudder, and the steamer Tnneury left Roster at noon on the 30th to render assistance, and will probably have made communication with the yacht. Vessels in vicinity are requested to keep a look-out as a precautionary measure-.”
COURT SENTENCE,
PALMERSTON N., May 1
At the Magistrate’s Court, Charles William Norman, labourer, of Levin, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment with hard labour for the theft of a cycle, valued at £lO.
OLD RULES
WELLINGTON, May 1
The Wellington Rugby Union appears to think the New Zealand Union has written more into the resolution, re playing under old rules, than was conveyed in it. There was a discussion on the subject in which some members said it was going too far to apply it to club matches, only inter-provincial and trial matches were intended. If it was applied to all games, there would not ho much chance of carrying it.

YOUNG COUPLE DEALT WITH WELLINGTON, May 1
,]ean Evelyn Larsen, 17. and Percy Clarke alias Lu'inon.te, 25, found sleeping in an empty house in Moir Street, were to-dav charged with being there without a lawful excuse. Clarke has a record for theft, breaking, (entering and theft, and breach ol the peace and it was stated that the girl had been knocking round North Island towns for the past nine months and until recently was living with a man as his wife. Her mother was living with a man at Hastings, and her father was a resident at Dunedin. She was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence and to remain at the Salvation Army homo until the child was horn. Clarke got three months hard labour. , A FlltE. WHANG AREI, May 1.
A seven-roomed house, owned and occupied by G. W. Longlund, of lutuaka, was completely destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. The family of nine lost evertliing except the clothes they were wearing. A piano and three radios were included in the effects. The insurances are unavailable. WHANG AREI R ATNFALL. WHANGAREf, May 1. The rainfall for Whangarei last month was 9.99. For the past ten years the April average lias been 4.19.
