FIERCE FIGHT

A Darwin message states that fierce lighting occurred aboard an auxiliary ketch near Victoria. River, when three aboriginal members of the crew attacked Constable Kcnnott. a Malay and a Japanese, who formed the rest of the vessel's complement. Non nett was struck with a tomahawk while asleep. but was fortunate enough to knock his assailant overboard. Other aboriginals attacked the Malay and .Japanese. The former hvas clubbed and 101 l into the sea : while the Japanese was slashed with a knife. In the desperate lighting which followed both aboriginals were flung overboard.

An electric tram collided with a loaded motor bus at Prahran. The bus rolled over, and the passengers were only extricated by smashing in the roof and,.rear wall.

The driver was unhurt, hut twentyone passengers wore injured, and the train badly scratched.

There was a remarkable accident last night, when a tram left the rails in Ultimo and crashed into a tobacconist’s shop. Almost simultaneously a lire broke out adding furtnef terror to the iniured and frightened passengers. The driver, conductor, signalman and six oassengers were injured. The driver was trapped in his compartment, but a man broke a window and released him. Fire Mrigades and ambulances were qticikly on the scene and the flames were subdued.
