The Conservative budget amendment regretting there was no provision for reasonably safeguarding and protecting the interests of those engaged in agricultural and industrial pursuits was defeated in the House to-day by sixty-two votes.

A progressive sub-amendment urging an immediate, substantial increase in British preference, was defeated by one hundred and thirty-six votes.
