MURDEROUS ASSAULT
AN ARREST MADE.

AUCKLAND. April 12.
On the night of March 20th. on Western Springs Road, a murderous assault was made on a woman aged twenty. It is alleged she was struck ■hi the head with an iron bar, and was picked up by neighbours, having such a. seven 1 injury to her skull that an immediate operation was necessary. The ease has since occupied the attention of the police and detectives.
To-day Bertram .James O’Connor. 31, was charged at the Police Court with having indecently assaulted a girl of Ij years on March 31st. and that on March 31st. he did grievous bodily harm to the young woman previously referred to.
Accused was remanded on bail of £250. the chief detective remarking that this was one of the most ( serious ■■uses that have come before this court. Accused stated he had an alibi.
