BRIBERY ALLEGED

DISCLOSURES AT MANLY. Startling allegations of attempted bribery Were made at a meeting of the Manly Council, when the May r (Aid. V. . Brady) said that a man had offered him a huge sum to sell the council’s honour. “This man,” said the Mayor, “can e to see me and offered me a considerable bribe to put a matter through the council. “I put it in the hands of the detect, ive, and the matter is now one for the Attorney-General.” The Mayor’s remarks dealt with a letter which was then referred to the Jinance committee.

Behind tlie disclosures, says the Sydney “Daily Telegraph Pictorial,” is a story of how two stenographers were hidden in a bookcase to listen to the offer, while detectives were in the next room.
