SIR J. WARD’S ORDER

WELLINGTON, March 8
A letter of instruction has been iorwarded by Sir Joseph Ward to all of the Government Departments directing that New Zealand timber is to be used so far as is possible for Departmental purposes. The preparation of a uniform grading and classification scheme has been completed and this will be put into operation forthwith by the sawmillers, who have undertaken to supply the Departments with timber cut true to the grade, sizes and properly seasoned. This scheme closely follows the practice adopted in other countries, and notably the United Sinus and in Canada, which Ims been so successful in building up its local and export markets.
