By a unanimous vote the Conference of North and South Island Motor Unions to-day passed a remit urging c/,at legislation be introduced making provision for separate Highway Boards for the, two Islands. The allocation between tbe two Islands of the monies derived from the petrol tax on the same basis as the allocation of the tyre and license fees was urged in another remit passed as the Conlerencc. Air A. E. Ensell. M.P., Presidentof tho South Island Motor Union who moved the remit, said that the present legislation provided for a fair allocation of the license fees and tyre tax. The late Prime Minister had promised that petrol would he placed on the same basis. AH tho.v were asking was confirmation as the practice "as aready being carried out. Air F W. Freeman (Canterbury): We thrashed this matter out almost to the point of fire, and we are unanimously agreed upon it. It was decided to send the remit on to the Government.
