BAND CONTEST ASSOCIATION. By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, March 1. The North Island Band Contest Association’s Conference was held this morning. Mr H. D. Bennett presided, and in moving the adoption of the report, the Chairman referred to the fine playing at the contest and congratulated the Wanganui Contest Committee on securing a judge of such outstanding ability as Mr J. T. Rees, who had given entire satisfaction. The election of officers resulted: — President H. D. Bennett (re-eleeted); Secretary, J. G. Osborne (re-elected.) BAND CONTEST. WANGANUI, March 1. Boys solo, under 17, own choice:— E. Williams, Woolston, (trombone) 98; Normon Marsh, Taranaki Regiment, (cornet) 90; J. Buckley, Queen Alexandra, (cornet); 85. Also competed.— J. Ruddhall (Greymouth) 75; A. McMaster (Greymouth) 78;, 11. Me Master (Greymouth) 79. Judge Trussed said he was very well pleased with the performers and a number of the boys wpre going to make very promising players. Tlie winner gave a wonderful performance and if he were a sporting man and inclined to speculate a little lie would say that lie was the finest boy trombone player in the Southern Hemisphere. He takes Beggs prize also for the most artistic rendering, and it was certainly very artistic. The Judge made complimentary reference to the second and third players but the latter, however, was inclined to race.
