BOAT’S DEPARTURE DELAYED
CHIEF COOK DESERTS. [By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, March 1. The Commonwealth and Dominion liner, Port Alma, which has .twelve passengers and a full cargo of wool, dairy produce and frozen meat, was held up at Wellington yesterday for several hours owing to the chief cook leaving the ship when she was ready to sail. Her lines were “singled up,” the pilot was aboard and the ship was ready to start on her voyage for London when it was reported the chief cook was missing. It is stated be was seen to go ashore shortly lie fore neon and was driven away in a private motor car waiting on the wluirt. A substitute was soon found and a warrant was issued for the arrest of the missing man and after a delay of five hours the Port Alnia put to sea. It' fis understood the whereabouts of the missing cook are known to the police authorities. wmmmmmmmmmmmmmmamm
