(By Telegraph—Press Association). INVERCARGILL, February 26. The hearing of the case broughtagainst the Southland News Coy. and Southland Times Coy. by the Southland Farmers’ Cash Supply Service was continued this morning in the Supreme Court before his Honour Justice MacGregor. Evidence was given to-day by if armors in support of the delence’s plea of justification. After evidence by. farmers for the defence, Mr Longuet (for plaintiffs) said to prove justification, the defendants had to show that the plaintiffs had swindled. That would he difficult to do. They would have to show that the firm had set out to del rand from the beginning of its operations. A “ swindle ” implied cheating and deceit. and it certainly was a defamatory and actionable word. Mr Longuet then called sixteen, witnesses, fourteen of whom were farmers, who expressed satisfaction with the service they had received from the j plaintiff's. The hearing was adjourned till to- ] morrow, when the evidence of the principals of the firm will be heaid.
