THIEVES FOILED
ROBBERY FROM A SHOP

CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 21
Early this morning the tobacconist’s shop of George Weaver, New Brighton ,was entered by thieves, who entered by smashing the glass door, after first smearing it with treacle, to deaden the sound. The noise, however, awakened a neighbour, who went to investigate. Becoming aware that they were observed, the thieves decamped with a sackful of goods, leaving two other sacks with goods ready to take away. They made off on bicycles, but abandoned their sack' of loot oil same sandhills, where it v. as found later.
