VICTORIA V. N.S.W. HOOKER DOES THE HAT' TRICK. (Australian Press Association). SYDNEY, Jan. 28. In the Sheffield Shield match Victoria in the first innings made 2G5. Hooker finished off tin* tail-enders wi'.li three consecutive, balls, doing the hat trick. Hooker took (5 for 49. Bettington three for 92, and Nieholls one for 52. The Victorians followed on and have made 342 for three (Onyons 181. Seaife 91. Darling 81 not out). Again Hooker distinguished himself, skittling Austen, the opening batsman, with the. first ball. Hooker thus took four wickets with four halls. VICTORIAN COLTS BAT WELL. SYDNEY, Jan. 29. In the Sheffield Shield cricket match, Victoria in the second innings made 510 for seven wickets to-day. Darling scored 9G, Bird 63, and Lansdown not out 48. In howling, Hooker took 2gfor 94, Fairfax 2 for 54, McCabe 1 for 44, and Marks 1 for 59. New South Wales won on the first innings by 448 runs. The Victorian colts conquered the bowling to-day. and by splendid defensive cricket, saved an outright win. GAME DRAWN. ENGLAND 44G AHEAD. ADELAIDE, Jan. 29. In the cricket match, England declared its innings closed when play against "South Australia was resumed to-day. The visitors then were fivi hundred and twenty-one ahead. Tin attendance was poor and the weathgf dull and threatening. Smith Australia again suffered an early disaster, Richardson being dismissed for three. Hack and Harris'lbatted very slowly’, scoring forty-one in an hour. An early adjournment was made for lunch, owing to rain, and play was resumed fifteen minutes late on a wet wicket. The greasy ball bumpered the' bowlers. Harris and Hack batted freely for thirty minutes, adding 31, when further rain drove the players to shelter. It was still ra'oingat tea time.
