BISHOP DISOBEYED

BY CATHEDRAL DEAN. (By Telegraph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, Jan. 29. Since the sitting of the Waikato Diocesan Synod last July strong differences have existed between Bishop C. A. Cherrington and Dean G. R. Barnett, of Hamilton. The strained relations have become accentuated recently, and so a fortnight ago Bishop Cherrington wrote to Dean Barnett requesting him to forward his resignation within seven days. Dean Barnett replied declining to accede to the Bishop’s request. As a result, a Commission has been appointed to inquire into the question of the Dean’s fitness to retain the office of Dean of the Cathedral and Vicar of St. Peter’s Parish. The Commission, after hearing evidence, will report to the Bishop, "ho will act in accordance with the Commission’s recommendation.
