DUO \VN ING I-' A TALI TY. PALMKRSTOX X.. Jail. 21. Richard Thomas Polgla.se, a tailor, aged do, of Pahiatua, was the victim of a drowning accident at Manawatu Heads, Koxton, yesterday. Deceased arrived at Koxton from Pahiatua with his wife and child. About one o’clock he went in bathing. The tide was going out, and there"was a strong undercurrent. and soon it was seen that Polglase was in difficulties. Two lads among the crowd on the beach endeavoured to make a rescue, while eight girls tried to roach him by iforming themselves into a chain. Their efforts were unavailable. Two girls brought out a lifeline, and some bathers then went out and brought in Polglase, but he could not lie revived. A young man. William Teasdale, of Palmerston North, who had gone out after Polglase, got into difficulties and had to he rescued in turn. An hour was occupied resuscitating him. He was conveyed to the hospital. The deceased leaves a widow and eleven children.
