MARRIAGE BAN
ADVERSE PRESS CRITICISM. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). LONDON, January 19. The Bishop of St. Alban’s marriage haft was not passed without a controversy. A 'number of bishops and clergy asked 'whether they preferred not to comment at this stage. The Bishop of Portsmouth declared that in the Prayer Book rubric the contemporary sense of the words was not intended for those not baptised. The Bishop of Hereford says he is in entire agreement with the Bishop of St. Albans. The Bishop of Truro says the. Registry Office is provided 'for the purpose. The “Evening Standard,” in an editorial, states that perhaps the most curious reflection of the Bishop’s ntli, tude is that it is mue.li narrower than that of the Roman Catholic. It lias no wisdom ; nay the folly of the decision is apparent to all but the most narrow ecclesiastics. Mixed marriages are not prevented by such episcopal thrones of such persons that cause the rebellious anti-spirit of true religion. The law of the land and common sense brought the church its present discomforts.
