MURDER TRIAL
WOMAN DEFENDS .PRISONER. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).' LONDON. Jan. 16. For the first time in history, a woman barrister has appeared at Old Bailey in a murder case. Aliss Yenetia Stephenson made an eloquent and /dramatic, appeal for the life of WilHoia.ni Holinyard, aged 2-1, charged with 'murdering his grandfather. Concluding her address to the jury she said: “I know you will not allow sympathy for the dead to override justice to the living at this most solemn moment of liis life. I leave bis life in voiir hands with a prayer to God to lead you to the right conclusion.” Justice Humphreys addressing the jury said: “I am sure ,vou will agree that a serious ivsnoiisihiliT v lie l - "H her shoulders. She has discharged her duty to her client in a manner that reflects the highest possible .credit oil her carefulness and ability.The jury including three women, convicted the prisoner and the death laentence was passed.
