TRAIN WRECKERS

ESCAPE OF ADELAIDE EXPRESS. (Australian Press Association) (United Service.) (Received this day at 12.25. p.m 1 .) MELBOURNE, January 7. Train wreckers made an attempt to wreck the Adelaide express between. Bacchus Marsh and Ingliston yesterday afternoon. The driver noticing, an obstruction on the line, jammed on the emergency brakes and brought tho train to a standstill a couple of feet from two sleepers which were placed across the rails. Owing to the derailment of another train the express was fifty minutes behind schedule. Had it not been for this, a heavily loaded excursion train for Ballarat would have gone over the line first, on a down grade. The police are of opinion it is not a boyish prank, but a. deliberate attempt.
