Two families residing in a two-storied house at Cruminer Road had a narrow escape when the residence was burnt early this morning. J. Gaskin and bis wife, and Charles Stewart and his wife were sleeping downstairs, and when Mrs Stewart discovered the fire the other adults climbed the stairs to rescue two hoys named Clifford, aged 7 and 4. visitors to Auckland. Finding the way barred by flames they eventually got upstairs by ,a side entrance. Gaskin draged the sleeping children out and had barely made good his escape when an explosion hastened to complete the demolition of the building. Mrs Stewart was involved in a motor accident recently, and had received a severe shaking from which she had not vet recovered.
