MOTORS COLLIDE

SERIOUS DAMAGE CAUSED,

THREE PERSONS INJURED

A collision between two motor cars look place on New Year’s morning at the intersection o*l Sewell and Hampden Streets, near .Mr Kir wan’s the driver of the ‘ cars being Buchanan and .Mr Ronald Olson, of Humphreys. It appears that Olson left the Soldiers’ Hall dance about 1.20 a.m., having as occupants of the car his sister, Miss Pearl Brenda Olson, Miss Lily Mills, and Albert YVilliams (an employee of Arahura Dairy 1* actory), and Sydney Breeze (son of Mr J. J. Breeze, bootmaker, of Revell Street). Ho went straight up Sewell Street and did not see anything till at the intersection oif Hampden Street he saw the car right on him. He was travelling at a moderate speed, about 20 miles, at the time, and there was heavy rain.

Dr Buchanan was travelling east, from Revell Street and it was not till he was on to the intersection that ho saw the other car. He immediately swerved away to the left, hut the othei car appeared to continue straight Dr Buchanan’s car struck the other car on the left rear wheel with his right guard. Olson’s car slewed round and then turned a complete somersault, coming on to its wheels again. Di Buchanan’s car driving gear jammed with the impact and the car swung round to the left.

Tlie driver Olson escaped without a scratch, but Miss Pearl Olson received severe injuries to her head,, an d "’as rendered unconscious. YVilliams had his collarbone broken and both Miss Mills and Sydney Breeze suffered considerably from shock. Olson’s car was badly Wrecked, . especially in the upper gear. AS-jjK huclianan’s ear was bent badly in the front guard and a lamp was smashed. . On enquiry this morning from the .Art Hospital Dr Baird reported that Miss Olson who had concussion was doing very well and making very satisfactory progress, and was now quite consciousThe” others injured were also progressing quite satisfactorily.
