AN EARTHQUAKE
A SEVERE SHOCK
On .Monday night just before seven o’clock a prolonged earthquake was experienced. I hero was iirst a loud rumble, and then a marked quiver that rapidly increased in intensity and again lessened out to finish with a sudden jerk. Buildings swayed and crockery rattled for a considerable time. The shake lasted Fj to -0 seconds, being an unusually lengthy one. Some alarm was caused and in a mini- j her of places the, occupants made their way rapidly into the open air. It. was easily the heaviest shock experi-J*-cnccd here lor several years. No damage is reported.
