AFGHAN REBELLION
KING'S REFORMS UNPOPULAR.
(United Press Association—By Electric

LONDON, Dee. 27
“The Timer’s” military correspondent states: King Amanulhdi. or Afghanistan. after his return, seems to have adopted, without adapting. M ttstapha KemaPs tactics, forgetting that lie has not the weapons which the Turkish Dictator lias so ,skilfully wielded. The stability of King Auianullah's throne depends on the army, i hi* Alghan soldier is a conscript, ami is often an unwilling one, with his meagre pay months in arrears. The reimportation of Turkish military instructor.;. who showed such a galling superiority towards the Afghans that the Aipir dispensed with their stfvues. may be largely the cause of reported disaffection among a portion of the royal troops. Probably the causes ol the unrest lie far deeper than the reforms. These may supply the spark, but the tinder lies in the antagonistic tribes’ and see is' interests. Any attempt to enlarge Afghanistan's external influence may endanger the still incomplete internal unity. It is peculiar that the 'rebellion appears to lack any louder. No i\ hellion can long ■xist on a mere negation, such as that )f hostility.
