BEAM STATION AFIRE

WHOLE ESTABLISHMENT THREATENED.

A fire occurred at the beam wireless station to-day about three o’clock, and threatened to destroy the whole establishment, together with £30,000 worth of equipment. The beam station is south-west of Ballarat, • eight miles from Ballan. The fire had been burning an hour and a-half when the Brigade arrived from Ballarat, 28 miles away. Beam officials removed the expensive valves, hub were powerless to light the lire. Details are meagre.

In the 'beam (ire, the greater portion of the main machinery building was gutted and dynamos seriously damaged. Only New South Wales power house is left standing. The firestarted in the roof and debris fell endangering the valuable plant. Officials of the Amalgamated Wireless slated to-night that the receiving plant was impaired ’out. the transmitting mechanism is undamaged. 1 lie service would recommence at G.lo, Melbourne time.
