AUCKLAND, Dec. 5
A resident of Ponsonby, J. Rogers, a passenger from Sydney, disappeared from the ■Ylaunganui at 9 p.m. on Saturday, a few hours after the vessel loft Sydney. He had been walking the deck talking with fellow passengers, apparently in his usual health. The night was calm and there was no heavy sea. Next morning he was missed and a diligent search was made but no trace of him was found. labour appreciation. WELLINGTON, December 5. The following resolution was passed by the Labour caucus yesterday: That this meeting of the members of the Parliamentary Labour Party records its sincere appreciation of the untiring efforts of Hr Holland, on behalf o!f tho Labour movement and recognising his knowledge and ability, his courage and unswerving devotion to the cause of the workers it unanimously affirms its confidence in him as leader of the party. FRAUDULENT CHARGES. WELLINGTON, Dec. 5. Nine charges of having fraudulently converted to his own use money rcceiv ed as deposits on a house and property, were preferred to-day against J. D. M. Mclntyre, land agent, aged 46, the amount involved being £364. A. J. Petherick, public accountant, evidencing said the usual books account had not been kept and accused admitted he had not kept a casli book. The trust acoiint in the bank had ceased, and the credit balance in it was 9s 3d. So far as witness could tell the total shortage was £364.
The poiioo evidence aecujid lin'd made a statement that the business in the land agency was not bright and to keep afloat he was compelled to use deposits to pay expenses. Tie had no intention to defraud anyone but kept hoping for better times. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence.
MAORI WAR VETERANS. HASTINGS, Dec. 5
At a conference of Maori AYar veterans held this morning, Afajor Lomax (Wanganui) presided over sixteen veterans of an average age of 83. The annual report stated 57 had died during the year, leaving 279 on the list. It was unanimously decided not to join the Empire Veteran Association. Azotes of thanks rtvere passed to the Government for a grant of railway passes to delegates. Air Lomax was re-elected Vice-President. It was decided to hold the next meeting at Wanganui.
