OLD-TIME CARS

(United Press Association—Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyright). LONDON, Nov. 18. Forty-three motor cars, all over 25 years old, took part to-day in a run from London to Brighton, to celebrate the 32nd anniversary of a similar run held in 1896 when it became no longer necessary for a man with a red flag to precede motor cars using the English highways. Compared with the modern models, the ears in to-day’s race, few of which were fitted with windscreens, looked extremely primitive. The oldest car in the procession was one 35 years old. These early cars evidently were stoutly built, many of those on exhibition being still in use almost daily. Some have their original sparking plugs and a few of them have undergone extensive mechanical repairs. One two-cylinder car was still using one of the tyres with which it was equipped when purchased.
