SCARLET FEVER EPIDEMIC

ADVICE TO PARENTS

CHRISTCHURCH. Nov. 9

The scarlet- fever epidemc in North Canterbury lias exceeded the normal time of epidemics of this nature, and the medical officer has found it necessary to issue the following notice: “Seventy-five per cent-., of the cases reported are children under fourteen. Roughly, twice as many cases have occurred in the age period of five to ten as in the age period, ten to fifteen. The majority of all cases have occurred in the Metropolitan area and it is proposed to exclude from schools in this area all children in infant classes and Standard 1. All Kindergartens are also to be closed. Parents are urged to keep their children away from Sunday school's, places of public entertainment, parties or any other indoor congregation of young people.”
