CHARACTER AND SUCCESS

“ The quality of self-control is as important at sixty as at- twenty. One would imagine that temptations vary with age, and that every age has its own ; but self-control is a habit which once acquired, becomes easy to exorcise in whatever direction it is required,” writes' Sir J. C. W. Reith, the Director of the British Broadcasting Corporation, in “Nash’s Magazine.” “Upon the importance and the effect of personality is hard to place a limit. Unfortunately it may to some extent be dependent on physical characteristics, for which one is not responsible and over which one has no control; but defects of this sort may he offset otherwise. A personality may bo dominating or negligible, pleasing or disagreeable. To a large extent it is established on a knowledge of oneself and on a recognition and appreciation of the immense possibilities that are within, capable of being developed and exploited. Success will, not come by force or merit of personality alone, no matter what ardour of ambition, determination, self-confidence or courage be superadded thereto. It demands hard work and clear thinking.’
