AIR SERVICE
NOT FOR FIVE YEARS. COMMANDER BURNEY’S VIEWS (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received this day at 0.2 b. a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 5. “There is little likelihood of a regular airship service, to Australia Avitliin six years.” stated Commander Burney in an interview. He was emphatic that airships would not fie of commercial value fill they had achieved a cruising speed of one hundred miles per hour, and the ability to face all weather.” People expect too much in a short time from the airship, and the difficulties must be faced. To-day we are. experimenting, to-morrow avo are achieving. 'Flic Graf Zeppelin did Avhat T thought it avouM. It was an interesting experiment. IT R.IOO realises laboratory experiments then it may be an airship Avill be built for one hundred passengers with forty of a croAv and fourteen engines, but I do not see any possibility of anyone constructing such an airship Avitliin lavo years. It is more likely to be three. Then a comfortable flight- to Australia may be possible in 1931, but it will be at least five or six years before there is a regular service.”
