Sir William Clark. British High Commissioner to Canada, tvas officially welcomed to Canada on Saturday night at a Government dinner.

Clark’s appointment, the Premier, Mr .McKenzie King, said that it was by far the most important step yet taken to further effective consultation .ind co-operation between the Governments of Great Britain and of Canada, with resultant benefits to both, and, what Avas even more important, to the unity of the Empire as a whole. It was the most effective means thus far devised of securing the Crown against involvement in any possible controversy which may ever arise between the different governments of which His Majesty is the head. He added: “If closer relations of the Governments of the Empire and the maintenance of unity through the security ol the Crown is Avhat wo all desire, may we not truly say that there they will find the surest, as veil as the latest development.” ILLICIT LIQUOR.
