PALMER PRIZE ESSAY

THIS YEAR’S WINNERS

The results of this year’s essay competition held among primary and secondary schools by the Navy League for the Palmer Prize have been announced. The subjects were: Senior—“ How the British Navy has Helped in Discovery and Science; Junior—“ Naval Heroism in the Late War.” Senior boys—William Percy Foster, Ngatea District School (15 miles from Thames):

Senior girls—Marian Kerr Steven, New Plymouh Girls’ High School. Junior secondary hoys Stephen Cathcart Miller, Waitaki Boys’ High School, Oamaru. Junior secondary girls—Mabel Precious, Levin District High School. Junior boys—Allah Hunter Main, Oamaru South School.

Special prizes—John Keeling, Central School, New Plymouth, and Stanley Slater, Victoria Avenue Wanganui.

Junior girls Sylvia Ayes, Victoria Avenue School, Wanganui. The following acted as examiners: Dr Scliolefield, Litt Dr.; Dr Craig, LL.D.; Mr J. W. Russell, B.Sc.; Mr R. Edwards, M.A.; Miss Creig, M.A.; Mr Strachan, M.A.
