WIRELESS TELEPHONY

POST OFFICE ATTITUDE,

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).

(Received this day at 10.30. a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 29,

The announcement that Marconi is ready to begin wireless telephony to Australia elicited the disclosure that the matter does not rest in Marconi’s hands. The Post Office authorised the statement that inter-imperial telephony remains its exclusive prerogative, in 00-opfbration with Dominions and Post Office, Acting upon that prerogative it is equipping additional buildings with apparatus for inter-imperial communications with all Dominions and supplementing existing service to the whole of North America. Meanwhile Britain is consulting the Governments of India, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, with a view to cooperating independently with Marconi.

It jis [unofficially 'understood That British legislation authorising the merger will allocate cables and wireloss "exclusively to the merger, but will reserve telephony to both national and inter-imperial for exclusive control of the Post Office, incooperatcd with the Dominions for which a considerable plant lias already been mustered.
