The fifth Royal Show opened this morning in wet weather following several delightful spring days. Judging for the first day in needlework, photography and pigs. The awards in stock classes are being made to-mor-row. PALMERSTON N., Oct. 30. At a meeting of the Council of New Zealand Pig Breeders Association it was , decided to pay the expenses of junior judges up to seven pounds at Auckland, Palmerston North, New Plymouth and Christchurch Shows, to assist senior judges, and with the object of qualifying for the position. As an expression of sympathy with the Governor-General in his illness the following telegram was despatched to Captain Boyle, Military Secretary :—Sir Douglas McLean and Committee desire to convey sympathy with His Excellency in his illness and wishes him a speedy lecovery. They regret he is unable to attend the Show.
