WILKINS MESSAGE

LONDON, October 26

Sir G. Wilkins has sent a cable message from Montevideo, dated October 24, stating that the sturdy whalei Hektoria weighed anchor on the second stage of the journey to the remote ice-bound Antarctic. All members of the expedition are cheerful, and sent farewell messages. Eielson, Crossman, Porter said they were in tlie highest spirits, anticipating complete success. Tlie Norwegians manning the Hektoria were a splendid lot, stiong, vill iim and brave, and had greatly assistthe careful stowing olf aeroplanes and impedimenta. This was essential because success and lives depended thereon. Everyone at Montevideo bad been most kind. By starting tlfat day it would mean that the expedition would reach the Antarctic, land of blizzards, immense ice barriers and frozen mountains by the middle, of November. “ We are bappv to be en route to the fringe of that domain,” the message states, “ and we are confident we can wrest from Mother Earth, wliat is probably her last big secret.”

ZEPP’S PROGRESS. \ BERLIN, Oc-t. 29. Friedrielisliaveu reports state the Zeppelin is expected to berth on Tuesday morning. Reports show good weather conditions and a following Wind for the first half. Later the craft may encounter a westerly gale, clouds and rain.
