GENERAL ELECTION

MR SEDDON IN THE NORTH. Mi 1 Seddbn wound up his northern tour for the present in the Grey Valley on Saturday night. He spoke first at Nelson Creek, where there was quite a largo meeting for the district. Mr A. Donnellan was in the chair. Subsequent to Mr Seddon’s address, Mr Doyle moved a vote of no-confidence in Mr Seddon. This* was seconded by Mr Galbraith, but the motion found only three supporters. A vote of thanks was then accorded Mr Seddon, moved by Mr Dalziel and seconded by Mr J. Donnellan. The proceedings were enlivened by the demeanour of the-. Communistic element present at the. meeting. Later; Mr Seddbn had a meeting at Ngahere. This, too, was well attended, including visitors from Blackball, outside the electorate. Mr D. Armstrong was chairman. There was a good deal of noise and veiled interruption from the rear of the hall, during the address by the candidate, ancl later when question time came, - fully an hour was devoted to tlie heckling process by those opposed to'Mr Seddon. ’The-candidate gave ready replies to all the queries, and the cross-fire made the, proceedings very animated„ With the exhaustion of* tlie question box, Mr Jl Donaldson moved a vote of thanks to Mr Seddon for address, and this was seconded'by Ml* W. Ross, and carried amid applause,

During last week, Mi* Seddon had a very busy time, covering a great deal of, territory > and addressing many meetings. His big meeting at Grey- , mouth seems to have established his candidature very definitely in that quarter. In 'the various centres in the north where he spoke, Mr Seddon was always well received, excepting for the organised opposition at Saturday night’s meetings referred to above. These election amenities, however, are inevitable, and Mr Seddon took it all -in good part, and was able to give a Roland for an Oliver when the exchange was necessary. These disiuptive tactics frequently recoil on those responsible, and this was the case in some instances last week, resulting in • the support, for Mr Seddon hardening - substantially in those quarters where the opposition was unfair and unreasonable in the methods used. . Mr Seddon is visiting Dillmans and the Kumara Junction to-day, and speaks at the Memorial Hall, Kumara, to-night. The two following days will he devoted to the territory surrounding Greymouth, arid then Mr Seddon comes south ,to make a general tour of Westland County. Tlie Mayor of , Kumara (Mr Spiers) will preside at the meeting at. Kumara to-night, which! is set down for eight o’clock.
